How Northwestern University’s sunrise hospital has improved its care

By NANCY WERMANAssociated PressNATIONAL WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) A hospital in North Carolina has improved the care it offers its patients, leading to a spike in hospitalizations and a decline in deaths.

The hospital in rural Harnett County has more than 1,300 beds and the hospital system is in the midst of a $8.3 billion plan to build new facilities, including one for emergency services.

The hospital system says the program is saving the system $2.4 billion over the next five years.

The news comes as the Trump administration is reviewing federal spending for hospitals.

The new hospitals are expected to open in 2019.
