By ANI News, The Times Of IndiaA new drug is being developed by a prominent doctor to cure hepatitis C, which is the leading cause of death worldwide.
A group of doctors and scientists have developed a compound that they believe can prevent the virus from infecting the liver and killing cells.
Dr Rajendra Singh, a member of the research team at the National Institutes of Health, said the drug works on the cellular level.
He said the compound is a protein that can be produced in the liver.
“It has no side effects and the side effects are extremely low.
The liver is very efficient at preventing the infection of the virus and its growth in cells,” he said.
The compound was developed by the Indian team led by Dr Rajendra Kulkarni.
He said the molecule has anti-viral properties.
Dr Singh said the team will now work on developing a vaccine that could be administered to the general population.
He added that the compound could be used to prevent people from getting infected with the virus.
“The drug could be given to the population in order to prevent the spread of the infection and the death of cells.
This is the main objective of this work,” he added.
The drug was developed to be used as a treatment for hepatitis C.
Hepatitis C causes inflammation of the liver, causing inflammation of blood vessels, liver cells and the liver itself.
The most common form of hepatitis C is liver cirrhosis, in which the liver breaks down.
