Why did the shands hospital get the new name?

A hospital chain has been given the name ‘Shands Hospital’ to mark the centenary of its construction.

The new Shands Hospital in Southampton is a new branch of Southampton Hospital which was founded in 1852.

It was one of four hospitals in the city built by Thomas More in the late 1800s.

The Shands Memorial Hospital was designed by a local architect and architect, Sir George More, and was built to house patients from the Royal Naval Hospital at Southampton.

Shands Memorial was opened in September 2016 and opened as the new main branch of the Royal Hospital.
